We are looking for an innovative and dynamic scholar to lead the Law Group at Wageningen University & Research (0.8 – 1.0 fte), one of the leading universities on food, health and environment.

The Law Group offers research and education on law and regulation in relation to food and environment, with a focus on food law, transnational law, intellectual property law, human rights, business and environmental law. The research programme evolves around three themes: transnational regulation, business and consumer regulation and new legal research methods. The group teaches courses in a variety of BSc and MSc programmes on food law, European Union law, intellectual property rights, human rights; sustainable development law; and environmental law.

As head of the Law Group, you will strengthen the group’s innovative research and education programme and you will effectively and constructively manage the group’s internal processes. You will ensure the group provides a supportive working environment to young and senior academics. Strengthening the acquisition of external funding for research and attracting PhD candidates are key elements of your responsibility. You will strengthen the profile of the group in national and international networks, and you will further enhance the group’s scientific and societal impact.

The current group (6 scientific staff, 3 PhD candidates and 2 support staff) is efficiently organised and supported by dedicated secretarial, financial and HR advisors. The student community is largely international and the courses of the group are taught in English.

We ask
As a successful candidate, you:

  • Are a scholar with a PhD degree in law and a proven scientific track record of recognised international quality in the field of law and regulation in relation to food, health, environment and/or business;
  • Have a vision for future legal research and education on food and environmental regulatory affairs;
  • Have a demonstrated ability to lead disciplinary and interdisciplinary research;
  • Have the ability to manage professionals and have an inspiring, collegial, and unifying leadership style characterized by a passion to develop people, to build teams, and to create synergy;
  • Are an inspiring teacher and supervisor for students of diverse backgrounds, with proven ability to develop courses at Bachelor, Master, and PhD level, and an interest, vision and capacity to innovate teaching methods;
  • Possess a proven capacity of acquiring, leading and managing externally-funded research projects;
  • Have the ability to effectively interact with professionals and societal partners in the development of research and education.

We offer
You will be working for an inspiring international organisation with a large number of interdisciplinary projects all over the world.
